Chris Isaac

Specialist/on-call mentor, Synthetic Biology

Chris is a graduate student studying Alzheimer’s Disease using bioinformatics at the University of Lethbridge and former Johns Hopkins University Emerging Leader in Biosecurity. He first became involved in iGEM in 2012 as a High School student, and now volunteers on the iGEM Security and iGEM Insights committees. Chris is a geekStarter mentor because he believes that synthetic biology has the potential to change the world, and that students are going to be the ones to do it.

“Becoming involved with geekStarter was a natural extension of giving back after having received support and mentorship under the original Alberta Innovates program. I keep coming back because I want to ensure that future students have the same access to innovative extra-curricular science that I was fortunate enough to have. Allowing students to take on challenges and learn on their own is a powerful developmental experience, and is necessary to build leaders with the skills to better the future”
